The Points system and the Reputation System on the FooAddict kind of go hand-in-hand, though they mean different things.
Far from the meaning of post count, that anyone could get by simply posting a small reply on ANY topic: the Point system Shows how often you post on threads and start topics, but also increases as your Reputation does. Reputation, however, gives a good estimate on how well you help out the community. Anyone who like your post can click the small + sign to the right of your post, and let the community know that someone likes that person or what they said. It is a good sign to newbies on who to look to for help, and perhaps who to avoid.
We have a Reputation system for a reason, so don't be afraid to use it! Don't be afraid to drop a persons rep if they say something you disagree with! It's how it works. You win some, you lose some!
Points:
As it stands at this point, you gain +1 Point(s) for posting on someone elses Topic, and you get +3 points for starting a topic! This is on ANY forum. FOR NOW. Say we get more active, and the Chit-chat forum gets spammed with anything and everything! Then I may reduce the points you get for posting there, so we dont have people with tons of points who dont actually even talk about FooPets. Or, we could reduce it to none at all.
As it is, however, you get points no matter where you post.
Reputation:
In order to give people Reputation points, you must have at least ONE post in the forums. And every person can only give about 20 Rep votes a day. (If we get more members, Ill increase that)
You obviously start with 0 reputation. That means, depending on how you start out here, you could go either way, into fame or infamy. A positive vote gives 1 point, a negative vote gives -1 point, and the thanks button gives +3 points. Again, this is a value for all forums for the time being.
Any Member can be given extra points by an Admin at any time, for any reason. :3
Hope this helps
